The core of my memoir is the difficult, honest process of rebuilding a life shattered by the loss of my wife and son. It is an experience that pushed me into isolation, into that “double-locked iron cage”. For anyone facing profound tragedy, the task of simply existing, let alone rebuilding, feels overwhelming. My book is dedicated to the idea that you can rebuild your life once more. This rebuilding started not with a grand plan, but with small steps: writing, expressing my pain, and eventually, opening a door to an unexpected connection. Rebuilding does not mean erasing the past; it means honoring it while creating space for future happiness. It requires a resilient spirit, one forged through my difficult upbringing in Greece and my time in the Merchant Marine. But most importantly, it requires allowing outside light in. My Angel, Sofia, became that light. Your journey back to a full life might be arduous, but it is possible. Never surrender your dignity or your belief that you deserve a second, beautiful chance at life.
